It’s interesting, I had a similar conversation on this topic with my friend JakHe asked me had I been at the most recent shooting in El Paso, Texas and since I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon would I have used it?

My answer was quite simply: I don’t know.
My first reaction would be to dive to cover with anybody with me.
Would I come out shooting guns a blazing?

Only if the shooter saw me and was starting to his weapon at me and my friends.
I’d have my pistol locked on him the entire time.
I’m dynamite at the gun range shooting at paper targets, but they are stationary and don’t shoot back.
When I practice I put between 200 and 400 rounds on target.
THE END
It would have to be a split second decision made with no hesitation on my part. In other words, shoot first, ask questions later! (If possible.)

It’s a safe bet he reacted before thinking. Why do we send people there if not to kill them?

There are no questions. I(f someone points a gun at you, then it is your absolute m right to shoot first.
A policeman knows to ID himself. They all practice and get real good at self defense! Especially since Obama was President because Obama made ne secret he hated the police!
