The New Victim of Our Wars and How Lindsey Graham Did His Part in Creating Them

Never turn your back on Lindsey Graham.

Those of you who have been following this site may remember my contacts with Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina regarding getting PFC Corey Clagget released from Prison.

Repeated contacts by me by phone and in person by a former Jag Attorney, Tim Pelitori

I remember the happenings as if they were yesterday.

Just assigned to his new platoon he was ordered to fast rope in to the village of Tel Afar.

The village was 500 KM northwest of Baghdad.

They were ordered to kill all males of military age.

After fast roping in to the village, Corey kicked a door down, and saw an Iraqi soldier holding a rifle who immediately dropped it.

Here’s where it gets very interesting, the Direct order was know before they jumped.

The company commander was the real officer who played him in Black Hawk Down, the Movie.

Corey had an attorney who ended up being put in jail when the trial was to begin, his case was immediately taken up by a female jag officer who told him she knew nothing about murder trials and to take the offer.

He did and as a result the country found itself with another type of casualty, the type of soldier who obeyed the law and got punished for it.

Our rules of engagement at the time were not to shoot the unarmed, which goes along with the Geneva Conventions.

Lindsey Graham was a double dipper at the time, being both a Reserve Jag Officer and a U.S. Senator.

His reply to all those who asked, “We can’t get involved in an ongoing trial.”

If Graham didn’t have his head up his ass he would have known he could have helped him.

Corey’s mom lived in a trailer with a whole in the floor.

She was too broke to buy plywood to fix it.

At one of his hearings to determine if he could get an early release from the Military Barracks at Fort Knox Kentucky, I got well wishers to cover his mom’s airplane ticket, hotel room, and spending money to use on her trip.

While in prison, Corey had been working with a VA psychiatrist who testified at the hearing that Corey was a gifted cartoonist and had three job offers in hand if he were to be released.

He wasn’t he spent his eighteen years mostly in solitary confinement.

This is not so much an indictment of the military justice system as it is with the bean counter mentality of the lack luster jag officers who see their job as numbers with a win-loss mind set where justice never entered their thoughts.
