S.W.A.T. is an acronym for Special Weapons and Tactics Teams.
The mission of the Burbank Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team is the preservation of life and property during critical incidents and high-risk operations.
Members of SWAT also provide training in tactics to other members of the police department, during directed training exercises.

So contrary to what may be popular opinion, they are not a shoot um up bang-bang group attached to police departments, but sent in to defuse situations where their help is requested.
It would make perfect sense to me if their mission were changed and they were turned loose when the left side of the aisle was in session and gun them all down. (Just kidding)

For the record, the officers couldn’t breach the door because the armed suspect had wedged a couch between the door and the stairs.
He was eventually arrested without a fight.
